Fantastic Joseph performance

What a fantastic run of performances we had on Tuesday when KS2 children performed their end of term production of Joseph to their families.
All the children sang beautifully and remembered all their lines (some of the songs needed superb memory skills - I wonder if they'll remember the order of colours in Joseph's coat in a few months time!)
Special thanks to Grace who played the piano and those year 6's who acted out the various parts.
Thank you to all the parents who came to watch us.
Here are a few photos (Thank you Mrs McKeown!)

Pudmore House Party

Well done again to everyone in Pudmore house for winning the house cup for this year. Their prize was an afternoon of fun and games on the field with party treats.
It was once again lovely to see the older children playing so nicely with the younger house members.

Cholsey Musicians at The Lion King

A group of Cholsey musicians enjoyed a day out in London visiting the Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre. After enjoying lunch and the outdoor entertainment at Covent Garden we took our seats for a stunning show. Rosalind, in year 6, said, "It was really exciting and lots of fun".

Our Gardeners

Congratulations to our Year 6 Gardeners who have, with the help of Anna, produced such bumper crops this year.

Thank you to all who purchased the goods too!

The Year 6 Gardeners were also the winners of the Cholsey School WI Eco Cup this year.  The cup was presented to them by two representatives of the Cholsey WI who came along to our Friday assembly.

Fabulous Egyptian Exhibition

Once again we have been amazed by the quality of the exhibits that the children have produced for their extended homework.  There has clearly been a lot of great family learning going on at home over the last few weeks which has produced a huge range of different responses.
Well done, everyone, and thank you to all who came to have a look.

Here are just a few samples:

Here is a fantastic video clip from Andrew using Mine-craft.

Cholsey School Brass Band

The school brass band performed today at a special awards assembly. Mrs Mildred Taylor and Mr David Taylor, representing Cholsey Silver Band, presented awards to Wilfrid, Harry, Rosie and George.

Cholsey School Represented at National Festival of Music for Youth

Wantage Youth Brass Band played today at the National Festival of Music for Youth at  Symphony Hall in Birmingham. Grace was playing trombone. The band played three pieces including a medley of hymns and a piece commissioned especially for the Festival.

The band played superbly and then had a masterclass with one of the country's top cornet players. This was a great experience for Grace and will encourage and inspire her to greater things.

Sports Day

Thanks to exceptional organisational skills from Miss Addison, we managed to run our first ever house sports day today. The children showed great team spirit and enthusiasm and many parents were able to come and support us - Thank You!

Overall, Pudmore house won the cup and have gained 100 house points - we will find out tomorrow if this alters the overall winning position.

Thank you to Mrs Dearlove for this lovely comment via email:

I just wanted to say big thanks to all the teachers and helpers who made Izzy's first experience of sports morning great fun :-)

She thoroughly enjoyed it and I don't think a smile left her face :-)

Year 3 and 4 Maths detectives

There has been another gruesome murder! This time it was the year 3 and 4's who had to become detectives and use their general knowledge and mathematical knowledge to solve the Egyptian themed crime!
The children were extremely enthusiastic and worked together in teams to piece together the clues and solve the crime. This time the murderer was Grace in Year 6!

Le café français

The car park outside the Flying Squirrels' classroom was today transformed into a Parisian street cafe!

The children spent the morning preparing the food and setting up the cafe ready for a busy lunchtime serving. Once the guests arrived, the children became waiters and practised their language skills.

The adults in school were treated to exceptional service and delicious baguettes and dessert.

Comments from staff included "delicioux et magnifique!"

Message from the education officer at the Pitt Rivers museum

Dear Heather,

I’m glad that you felt it went well.  Please do send me any photos that you take - if we could put them up on our pinterest page for Primary Schools Inspired that would be great:

You have been a lovely school to work with - the children and staff were all really engaged and enthusiastic.  We would love to work with you again in the future!

Murder Mystery in Upper Key Stage 2!!!

This morning the Year 5/6 children were faced with a problem -  a terrible crime has been committed and the only way to solve it was to use and apply the maths that they had learnt this year.

This involved (among other things) remembering Fibonacci, Pascal, triangular, square, prime, emirp and cube numbers.

The culprit was eventually discovered - Broken Claw - Cholsey's criminal mastermind (otherwise known as Mr Godfrey).

Serious calculations on the go!

Questioning one of the suspects

Another suspect is interviewed...

Should there be another occurrence, then the year 3/4's
will have to investigate next week! Watch this space.............
